For maximum drama, we suggest installing curtain hardware high and having curtains breaking at the floor. We highly recommend Ikea for your vacation rental textiles. Ikea has a large selection of affordable window treatments, rugs and accent pillows.
5. Let’s talk more about Lighting
When designing any space, we like to include an array of indirect, ambient, and task lighting. This includes lamps and pieces that go next to reading chairs, on bed side tables, and LED under cabinet lighting. One of our favorites is an adjustable task lamp like this Crosby Schoolhouse floor lamp from Target.
6. Easy-to-Clean Accent Furniture
We love this, very affordable, chair design by Albury from Wayfair. The fabric is a linen polyester which can be easily cleaned and is durable. The chair comes if several colors. We also love Kasala Furniture for modern accents chairs. It may not seem like much but adding accent pillows to chairs and sofas brings depth and color to the overall design look of a space.
7. BIG Coffee Table, Additional Storage
This industrial style coffee table from West Elm, made of sustainable mango wood, has a pop-up lid that reveals extra storage space. And we love it! We have found in our travels staying at Airbnb’s, there often is a shortage of surface space for laptops, maps, keys, etc. This West Elm table comes in 2 sizes, 36” by 26” and 50” by 26”.
8. Easy-to-Move Side Tables
We like to use a variety elements and textures in our design process. This 13.5” round brass side table from Pottery Barn cannot be beat when it comes to affordable pieces that can serve multiple purposes for your vacation rental guests.
9. Easy to Clean & Easy to Install Flooring
Luxury Vinyl Planking is the perfect flooring for vacation rental, it is affordable, and easy to install. This product from Lowes is Smartcore, Hanover Hickory Wide Thick Waterproof Interlocking Luxury Vinyl Planking. There are so many choices when it comes to LVP. We choose Luxury vinyl planking that are in a mid tone like Hickory. We find that dark flooring shows more dirt and hard to keep clean.
10. Accent Pillows with Removable Covers
Accent pillows with removable covers are an inexpensive way to bring more depth and color to your vacation rental space. This pillow from CB2 has two different insert options, feather or polyester. Covers are easy clean and we suggest purchasing extra covers to change out the look and soiled covers.
11. Warm and Neutral Wall Colors
There are endless amount of warm and neutral paint colors to choose from on the market. We tend to choose light neutral paint colors that have a touch of red in it. One of our go to colors are Sherwin Williams Requisite Gray and Eider White.
We also like to keep our designs colors to no more than three using the 60-30-10 rule. The wall color being the predominant color at 60%, the furniture color being 30% and accent color, such as pillows, drapes, at 10%.
